IRON NEST Multiplayer and Co-op Status
IRON NEST 1.0 is currently a single-player game. Native multiplayer for this game is officially planned, but there is no announced release date, player count, network model, cross-play promise, or final competitive rule set.
Checked August 9, 2026: Current single-player status and future native multiplayer are official-confirmed. Details and dates are unknown. The available co-op mod is unofficial and community-maintained.
The four projects people often mix together
1. The released game today
The official Steam product data lists Single-player and does not list native Online Co-op or LAN Co-op. Buying the current 1.0 release should therefore be a decision based on its single-player experience, not on a future feature.
2. Native multiplayer planned for IRON NEST
The August 2026 official FAQ says multiplayer will let each player control an IRON NEST on the same map, cooperate against shared targets, and eventually compete. The post-launch roadmap again lists multiplayer as a future direction.
Neither source gives a date. Do not convert “eventually” into a launch window, and do not assume player count, hosting, PvP format, cross-platform support, or save compatibility.
3. A separate future co-op game
The developers have also described a separate co-op project in which several players share one new platform or vehicle. The FAQ mentioned late 2027 or early 2028 as a tentative ambition. That is not the release date for multiplayer in the current IRON NEST game, and it is not a confirmed launch date for the separate project.
4. The unofficial co-op mod
The community project Jager2251/Iron-Nest-Co-Op-Mod aims to synchronize targets, turret systems, objects, audio, the store, newspapers, and other systems using Steam peer-to-peer connectivity. Its releases page showed v2.1.0 during this review.
Repository documentation and release numbering may not move together, and late join or current-build compatibility can change. Treat it as third-party software rather than an official mode.
If you try the mod
- Download only from the project’s official GitHub repository or release page.
- Read the current release notes and open issues before installing.
- Require every player to use the compatible game and mod versions.
- Back up relevant saves and configuration first.
- Expect breakage after a game update.
- Do not assume the project has received a formal security audit.
- Follow the mod author’s uninstall procedure if you return to vanilla play.
This site does not redistribute the mod and does not guarantee its security or compatibility.
What is still unknown
For the current game’s planned native multiplayer, the public sources do not confirm a release date, maximum players, dedicated servers, peer-to-peer architecture, cross-play, pricing, progression, mod support, or how campaign missions will change. Any page that supplies those details without a new primary source is speculating.
We will update this page when an official announcement provides concrete scope or a dated release target. Until then, the direct answer remains: single-player now; native multiplayer officially planned; no date announced.
